CHALLENGE:

I live across from a coffeeshop and everyday I see the same people go in and out at the same time. It is uniform and unchanging. I expect the same outfits (which I get) and the same orders (which I assume); while I sit and eat my bowl of cereal and sip my coffee I can't help but wonder if I do the similar thing. I looked down at my bowl of Kashi and went into my closet immediately and began to worry about my outfit frantically. So I came up with a challenge. Pick an outfit or have someone you live with (if you trust their styling) pick out outfits for you. It will give you a different image. You may love what you see and it may broaden your horizons! It will give you a new outlook or you could feel unchanged by the experience. The great Andy Warhol gave the world a new point of view of soup by just painting it a different color. Sometimes we just need someone who isn't staring at our own closet to pick out our outfits. The challenge can last for 3-5 days, 5-7 at most. Let the games begin. xoxo. Sarah

BIG KNIT

Hello fall! I am amazed at what this weather can bring to the fashion world each season! Here we have ladies and gentlemen. The fashion statement or fashion wants of my personal closet. A big knit and black boots that look classy and comfortable. I have to admit that I would love to see some fitted black shorts with this and a a gold locket...a longer one. Also: if wearing shorts, tuck in a little bit of the sweater to show of the length of the short & the belt (if wearing one). But none-the-less, this outfit is utterly fabulous! Look at the scarf, the sweater, the boots, the tights, the over the knee sock (not fully over though). It's perfectly matched and yet, it's a little dysfunctional. It's fall at it's best. Fall is a little chaotic The crazy colors of leaves, the dropping and raising of temperatures, the coffee that you hold while walking to class, etc. I love it all! This outfit is just...the perfect everything! Kudos to the coordinator!

Retro mixed with New Age:

Four words describe my feelings towards this garment: I LOVE THESE SHORTS. Granted, if I saw anyone walking down the street in a pair of oversized floral shorts I might give them a stare or two however, I think it would definitely depend on what they were wearing with it.

Take one good look at these shorts! I mean, imagine the possibilities! You could definitely roll up the shorts, wear them with tights, and a belt, and a white sweater. Knits are currently wearable due to the fall season that is approaching. And let's not only focus on the floral and lace here...look at those studs!

If those don't scream fabulous to you then, I don't know what does! The studs on these shorts 'youthen' them up. Anyways, I have never seen anyone wear these that is why they are going up on the wall. I think more people should wear things like this and be daring. If I had shorts like these, maybe I wouldn't wear them to class seeing as how we have plastic chairs (stud's would scrape the chairs) but I would wear them! So I am adding that to my thrift list. A pair of floral shorts...or floral pants that I could cut and then roll up and stud the pockets myself.

DEBBIE HARRY:

To the Debbie Harry Lovers:

I found these online and immediately fell in love! Although, they are missing a couple signature pieces for instance: sunglasses, studded boots, jewelry, etc. But, due to the fact that it's supposed to be a doll or a dress up doll, I will make an exception. My guess is that a paper doll can't carry a 2lb. necklace...if only!

My favorite: would have to be the shirts. She always paired them up with slimming jeans effortlessly and then looked fabulous. Although, I (along with fellow BLONDIE lovers) will admit that the striped dress is amazing! I am going thrifting this weekend and hoping to find something like that. If only I had Ms. Harry with me then everything would be smooth sailing but, oh well! I am going to be making my shopping list Thursday/Friday and then I will be scouring through the denim, polyester, and cotton! Life in the jungle is fierce!

EDGE:

Throughout this fall season I will be scouring the shelves for a fall jacket. To be particular: a leather jacket. They just have so much potential, whenever I see one I think of studs, scarves, jeans, and boots. And not all leather jackets scream, "EDGE" some are just simple, classy, and very chic. However, I will point this out, an edgy jacket can be those 3. Correct? I guess it depends on the rest of the outfit.

I am leaving this post extremely short and showing you this jacket which is a burberry leather studded. It reminds me of Joan Jett, Gaga, Karen O. and a bit of Sid Vicious- early years of Sid. This garment will definitely help me survive in the jungle--xoxo Sarah

Glory

I know this is long overdue however I promise this is applicable to today. I was in a cafe the other day and two women were talking about Diana and Kate and making comparisons. My personal opinion: there is no comparison. Although Kate has made a great impression on the world thus far whether it be with fashion or with her humbleness, Diana's footprint will never fade.

Her love for the world was heartwarming; it's as if all eyes were on her all the time. She was a fashion icon (as you can see above). I believe that some of those items are still worn today which is fabulous. It's as if the royal are walking among us...I think that she wouldn't consider herself royal. She would probably say: "Everyone is equal and if I do have money, I am going to be putting good use to it." Which she did and it touched many in various countries. The hungry were touched by a hand that normally would push people aside and what a wonderful thought.

Now, regarding fashion, I believe that Kate has been humble by re-wearing garments and proving to the world that she is an everyday woman (which is Diana's motto). However, Kate needs to remember that Diana was not only a fashion icon but she was a woman of many talents. A philanthropist, a person who cared for suffering people who had been neglected, and a great mother...oh and a fashion icon.

We will not consider this a war between princess because it will taint both reputations. However, I strongly believe comparing the two is such a shame. Diana's legacy cannot be replaced by any princess or queen- and no apology is necessary.

Fashion Night Out...or Betsey's Night Out

As I was perusing around the Fashion Night Out photos I, of course, stumbled upon the Betsey Johnson collection. It's amazing in so many ways: it fits full-figured women (we're talking sizes 9-11) and is still cute, she has her "under $100" line that is tied in with collection, and she uses color...lot's of it. Why is there such a fascination with Betsey? It's because her models seem to be smiling while walking down the runway- proudly strutting their fluorescent makeup and mismatched adorable clothes.

Walking in those clothes, in those shoes, (etc.) you get the feeling that fashion is alive, it's fun. And that is what fashion simply, is. It's supposed to be about the style of it all: how it's thrown on, as apposed to how regal it looks. I compare Betsey Johnson to a new garment that you buy: once you finally get to wear it with the perfect outfit- it's the most joyous thing ever. It's as if you've been waiting for this and waiting for the perfect day and here it is, the clothing, the makeup, simply...the everything. It all comes together so beautifully.

I can't help but smile when I see these clothes. Not that they are funny or something that should be laughed at- not at all! It's a deep sigh of, "ahh," the sigh of wonder.

"How was that created? That is gorgeous, how can I own that? How much does that cost?" Because god knows, some of us (like me, the lowly college student) can't afford a B.Johnson dress...le sigh!

Anyways enough about my excessive love of Betsey's FNO. I

am going to try and find a dress at a thrift store that is similar! Good luck in the jungle. xoxo-Sarah
